Persistent Issues Despite “Normal” Labs?

If you’re dealing with bloating, constipation, diarrhea, IBS, food sensitivities, autoimmune disease, brain fog, skin problems, hormone imbalance, or unexplained inflammation, it may be a deeper gut imbalance - not just stress or aging.

All visits are virtual, so you can work with us from anywhere!

If This Sounds Familiar…

  • You’re bloated more often than not

  • You’ve tried eliminating foods with little success

  • Your labs are “normal” but you don’t feel normal

  • You’ve been told it’s IBS

  • You go days without a normal bowel movement - or too often

  • You suspect inflammation is part of the picture

You’ve come to the right place. Gut dysfunction rarely happens in isolation.

Why Most Gut Problems Don’t Get Real Answers

Standard testing is designed to diagnose disease, not dysfunction. You can have:

  • Bacterial overgrowth (including SIBO)

  • Microbiome imbalance

  • Early autoimmune patterns

  • Food immune reactivity

  • Nutrient deficiencies

  • Blood sugar instability

And still be told everything looks fine. We see and hear this all the time.

Ready to Investigate What’s Really Going On?

If you’re serious about addressing gut dysfunction and inflammatory drivers, book your initial consultation today.

Meet Dr. Jen

I’m Dr. Jen Doriott, founder and Functional Medicine doctor of Vital Source Functional Medicine based in Charlotte, NC.

I work with clients who have been told everything looks “normal” - yet they don’t feel normal.

Most chronic health issues aren’t random - they’re patterns. Patterns of microbial imbalance, immune reactivity, nutrient depletion, blood sugar instability, and inflammatory signaling that build over time.

My role is to identify those patterns and create a structured, personalized plan to address them. I combine over 14 years of clinical experience with a systems-based, root-cause approach that goes beyond symptom management.

If you’re looking for quick fixes, this isn’t it.

If you’re ready for investigation and clarity, you’re in the right place.

FAQ

  • Functional Medicine consultations are private pay. This allows for longer appointments, deeper investigation, and personalized care that insurance models typically do not support.

Lab testing may be partially reimbursable depending on your plan.

  • Bring everything. I review prior labs as part of your consultation and determine whether additional testing is necessary.

In many cases, patterns are present in standard labs that were never fully evaluated.

  • Not always.

Testing is recommended when it helps clarify root cause. Every plan is individualized based on your history, symptoms, and goals.

That said, most people do require testing.

  • Gut dysfunction is often the starting point.

But imbalances in the gut frequently overlap with skin conditions, thyroid issues, fatigue, brain fog, hormone concerns, and autoimmune patterns.

Even if digestion isn’t your primary symptom, the gut is often involved.

  • Over 50% of our clients have at least one autoimmune diagnosis - we are well-versed in this arena.

Many autoimmune conditions have gut-related and inflammatory drivers.

Functional Medicine focuses on identifying and addressing those underlying contributors rather than only managing symptoms.

  • This is not a quick fix.

Most clients work through an initial 3–6 month investigative and implementation phase. The timeline depends on complexity and how long symptoms have been present.

  • Conventional care is excellent at diagnosing disease.

Functional Medicine focuses on dysfunction — the early patterns of imbalance that often develop years before disease is diagnosed.

We look at systems, not isolated symptoms.

  • The initial consultation is $249.

Follow-up recommendations, testing, and supplements are discussed transparently before moving forward.

There is no obligation to proceed beyond your initial consultation.
